Gionee P7 Review
Display
With a screen that is just about 5 inches, and its HD
facilities, the display is quite satisfactory.
The viewing angle is good and there is no fading at the
sides. Also when you fiddle with the brightness settings, you can easily use
the phone under the glare of sunlight.
So for display alone I’ll give it 5 out of 5 stars.
Although some similar brands like Redmi release phones with
FHD display, I find such display capabilities to be a bit of overkill for
smartphones.
Camera Quality
The front camera is 5mp while the rear camera is 8mp. I’m
sure we all know by now that these numbers mean nothing.
The brands just use them to hype products. But the Gionee P7
camera is pretty basic. It is average under low light with slight noise (almost
like an Iphone2).
The camera also comes with pro features that allow you to
adjust the camera settings. You can change the ISO, Focus, Shutter, white
balance e.t.c.
You can also use different modes like the beauty mode,
panorama mode, HDR, GIF, time-lapse e.t.c.
The selfie camera is great because it tends to find the
angles in your face without forcing you to pose too much.
This makes selfies great no matter what pose you strike. The
only flaw is that the front camera doesn’t come with flash features.
So even if the angle is great, you have to find excellent
lighting to get that awesome selfie.
So based on camera alone, I’ll give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Processor/Performance
This phone is equipped with the android 7.0 system coupled
with Amigo 4.0 operating system. So it’s not obsolete.
There was a version last year that was android 6.0
marshmallow but this version is an upgrade and not a clone.
This means that there is no app available on Google play
store that is incompatible with the phone. Awesome, right?
In other words, all apps on Google playstore will work well on this phone.
Apart from that, it comes packed with a MTK6737 1.3 GHZ Quad
core. That’s a great processor considering the price of the phone.
It works well under heavy usage. It doesn’t get hot.
Also, I
opened twenty app tabs like Facebook, Badoo, Operamini, Whatsapp, IQ options
e.t.c and there was no noticeable lagging in the phone’s performance.
It also plays high memory games like Asphalt 8 without
freezing or lagging.
So this 1.3GHZ quad core processor coupled with the 2GB RAM
makes it a high performing smartphone.
Therefore based on performance alone, I’ll give it 5 out of
5 stars.
Battery
The battery rating is 4000mAh. With such a high rating, I have
to say I find the battery performance a bit average.
It performs pretty well with games like mini militia, PES
2017 e.t.c and also lasts long when you use it for watching movies---with a
full battery you can watch movies for up to six hours (as long as you use an
earpiece) .
On the other hand, you can listen to music (with an
earpiece) ‘forever’.
I’m exaggerating
but that should give you the idea of how well it performs for listening to
music.
But the battery performance is average when it comes to
browsing. Once your mobile data or hotspot or Wi-Fi is on, the battery drains much
faster.
So based on the battery performance alone, I’ll give it 4
out of 5 stars.
Network Connectivity
Unlike the Leagoo Kicaa power which is somewhat similar to
this phone, Gionee P7 comes with 4G capabilities.
This is great because it means you can take advantage of 4G
network if you’re lucky to find that kind of reception in your area.
Some people usually want to know how to check if a phone is
capable of using 4G network.
It’s easy. If you don’t have the phone packet with you, just
go to settings and click on more.
Under more, click on cellular networks.
Under
cellular networks, click on preferred network type.
After that, you should see the list of network options
available to your phone.
How can you make your phone 4G capable? There is no way to
do that. If you want a 4G phone, you have to buy one.
So anyway, based on connectivity alone, this phone gets 5
out of 5 stars.
Extra Features
It’s nice to see that this smartphone comes equipped with an
IR (infrared) blaster.
This means that once you’ve downloaded the appropriate app,
you can control your TV or even air conditioner with just your phone.
How To Turn Your Android Phone Into A Remote Control
To do this, just go to Google Playstore and search for ‘IR
remote blaster’. You should see a list of different remote apps. Each of them
are for specific brands like Samsung, Sony, e.t.c.
Be careful to pick the app that is suitable for the device
you wish to control.
If your TV is an LG TV, download an LG remote.
It would be nice if this phone came with a pouch but
unfortunately that’s absent. Be
It doesn’t come with an earpiece too but that’s normal with smartphones these days.
It doesn’t come with an earpiece too but that’s normal with smartphones these days.
So based on extra features, I’ll give it 4 out of 5 stars.
