As a coffee enthusiast, I had to write a review about the

it all down for you.
But first let us take a quick look at the specs:
Key Features
- Capacity: 1.7L
- Overheat protection
- 850-2000w power
- Water level indicator windows
- 360 degree angle for left and right hand users
- LED illumination light inside
- Removable fine mesh filter
Binatone 1.7 L Electric Jug/Kettle Review
Speed
I used to have an electric kettle that took over ten minutes
to boil one liter of water. When compared to that snail, this kettle heats up
water pretty fast.
It takes just under three minutes to boil a liter of water
or milk or coffee, name it. That’s like lightning speed which is easy to
appreciate on a busy morning.
Therefore based on the speed alone, I’ll give it 5 out of 5
stars.
Easy Handle
I noticed that the handle can turn 360 degrees as
advertised. So the hand you use (left/right) does not matter as the kettle
never feels awkward.
Apart from that, the material is so light and shaped like a
jug which makes it easy to pour out the contents. Also the hands don’t get
tired while pouring.
Then I also noticed that the handle doesn’t get hot so there’s
no fear of scalding which is an added bonus.
Finally, the kettle can be lifted off the corded base to
make it easy to pour out its contents.
Based on the handle alone, I’ll give this kettle 5 out of 5
stars.
How Smart Is the Electric Jug?
When I say smart, I mean does it anticipate your failings?
Like if I forget to switch it off, will it keep boiling?
The jug does well to a point. It has an automatic shutoff
feature which has saved me a number of times.
Also if you mistakenly switch on the empty kettle, it will
give a loud beep warning. This dry-protection saves you from spoiling the
appliance.
But unlike the Bonavita kettle, it doesn’t have any features
for accuracy. There is no way to set it to a particular temperature.
That’s an oversight in my opinion. It seems like this kettle
is only capable of heating up liquids and not maintaining them at specific
temperatures.
So based on smartness alone, I’ll rate it 3 out of 5 stars.
Is the Binatone Electric Kettle Easy To Clean?
If you’ve ever seen a kettle with accumulated residue, you’ll
understand how important this aspect is.
Here this electric jug does not disappoint. The heating
element is never in contact with the water so you won’t have to bother with the
accumulation of nasty plaque.
The fine mesh filter is removable and can be cleaned easily.
And since the kettle can be detached from its base, it can be washed with ease.
So based on easy cleaning alone, I’ll give the kettle 5 out
of 5 stars.
Material/ Durability
From my experience, stainless steel is the best material for
electric kettles. But this makes them way more expensive.
This kettle on the other hand is made of plastic. So not surprisingly,
there is a faint funny flavor on its content by reason of the plastic
material.
Well, this cannot be escaped as the only way to avoid this
would be to buy the 4L stainless steel model.
But I’ve noticed that the jug is durable because of the
plastic and because of the lightness. It once fell on my kitchen ground and
still worked without any fault.
If a stainless steel kettle should fall, you’ll notice
visible dents on its metal surface. So the durability is a bonus.
The downside is that there is no visible warranty for this
product. Incessant boiling water stresses the appliance and it would be great
if it had a warranty.
In fact a warranty should be compulsory.
So based on the material/durability alone, I’ll give it 3
out of 5 stars.
Is The Binatone Electric Jug Pretty?
Well it is black and comes with a sleek streamlined design.
So don’t worry you won’t have to hide it away in an obscure drawer.
This jug would fit nicely on a kitchen shelf and it is not bulky
since it can be detached from its corded base.
Energy Consumption
It has a power rating of 850w to 2000w. That is a lot of
energy usage but considering the speed of boiling, this shouldn’t be a problem.
You’ll barely notice the draw on your electric meter because
you’d spend under five-ten minutes using it a time.
Is the Binatone Electric Jug A Good Fit For You?
This kettle is awesome for people who may not be coffee or
tea freaks. If you just want a basic
model that merely boils water then here you go.
Also if you’re the type that hates whistling kettles or the
thought of boiling water for almost half an hour then this electric kettle is a
great choice.
If you have kids that are fond of wasting gas just to boil
one cup of water or you live with forgetful people that can leave water on the
fire and totally forget then you should consider buying this electric kettle.
How to Maintain Your Electric Kettle
Trust me; you don’t want deposit buildup in your kettle. So
always empty the jug after use.
You are advised to decalcify the kettle from time to time
especially if you use hard water like water from a well.
The manual should guide you on how to go about this.
Don’t forget to clean the mesh filter periodically. The
filter is there to trap calcium deposits and so it has to be cleaned.
To remove the filter, follow the instruction in the manual.
After removal, clean the filter with a soft cloth or brush under hot water.
If the deposits won’t come off, soak the filter overnight in
a solution of one part water and three parts vinegar.
Make sure you rinse it well before returning it to the
kettle.
