So as I was saying, UKA is not a popular brand especially in Nigeria.

This is why I had to test this TV to see if it was any good.
But before we get into that, here is a quick rundown of it’s specs.

Display size: 32 inches
Ports: 2 USB ports and 2 HDMI ports.
Color: Black
HD picture quality
Automatic volume leveler
Remote Control
1 year warranty
Overall rating: 3 stars.

UKA TV Company Origin

UKA is a subsidiary of the Haier manufacturing brand.
So it's not a standalone brand.

What Is The Difference Between UKA TV and Haier TV?

UKA TV is produced by Haier in conjunction with other brands like Samsung.
So it is as a result of a partnership.

Other TV's under Haier include Looka TV and Mooka TV.

UKA 32 INCH TV DESIGN

If you’ve read the reviews I’ve written for other TV brands you’ll notice that I don’t usually review the TV design.

I feel I have to in this case so that I can share my observations.

The first is that this UKA TV looks cheap.
I mean it looks like a low-quality product.
Its black plastic shell feels fragile and prone to cracking.

It has that cheap feel of a low-budget Chinese product.

Apart from the cheap look, it has no control buttons on the front panel. ?
Why, who on earth designs a TV like that in the 21st century?

So you’ll have to rely solely on the remote control.
Newsflash, my remote only lasted for about a month and a half before it quit working.

Fortunately, it was merely as a result of dead batteries.

And the power button makes a click sound like cracking plastic that makes me think I’m handling a machine from the 1990s.

It also doesn’t come with a wall bracket to hang it on a wall and the stands are placed farther than a dinosaur’s foot so don’t even think of balancing it on a narrow shelf.

The good thing is that you can get this adjustable and stylish wall bracket.

Having an adjustable wall bracket means that you can bend the TV to any angle you want while hanging it on the wall.

So you can even lie on the floor and watch your favorite show without straining your neck.

If the last few paragraphs I've written don't pass across my dissatisfaction, I'll just put it bluntly.

The design doesn't impress me.
It’s cheap, clueless and fragile.
I’ll give it one star on design alone.

Below is a video I found of the brand new TV being unboxed.

Display

Now the advertised display for this product is HD.
But HD is a bit too generous if you ask me. It’s more like low MP4.

I mean it’s just a slight upgrade from 3gp. It's not as impressive as advertised.

It is not an OLED TV so I wasn’t expecting the black to be true black or the display to be glossy and vibrant.

But still I wasn't impressed.
The colors don’t pop as advertised and the screen brightness is not encouraging.

If you were to leave all your windows open on a sunny day, you’ll have a hard time watching anything with the kind of display this TV offers.

To be fair most people would rather pull the curtains down before watching anything of interest.

Also the screen refresh rate is just 60hz, so the display sometimes blurs a bit during fast scenes.

But I’ll admit that the viewing angle is quite ok. You can get a clear view even if you sit at an angle from the set.

In my opinion, anyone who finds this screen impressive just hasn’t had the pleasure of viewing a truly HD display with glorious color separation.

But all things considered this is just the sort of mediocre visuals you’ll expect from a TV of it’s price.

So for display it gets 3 out of 5 stars.

Sound

There’s no space in it’s flat tiny frame to carry powerful speakers.

So it should come as no surprise that the volume is subdued.

You can’t throw a house party with the audio from this UKA TV set.

Fortunately it has a port for you to connect your Bluetooth speakers or home theater.

I must add that if you’re planning to play Mp4 files from your USB flash or hard drive then it may end in tears.

You’ll only get to see the video with an annoying message that says 'audio not supported.

This is because the TV only plays MP4 with mp3 audio codec as if we are still in the era before YouTube.

To enjoy your video files, you’ll have to convert them to Mp4 with AAC audio codec.

It gets 2 out of 5 stars based on sound alone.

Energy Consumption

This TV is a great energy saver. It uses even less energy than a 60-watt electric bulb.

This is impressive I must admit. Although because of it’s fragile nature I’m not sure it will survive low voltage like it’s Hisense TV counterpart.

I’ve never used it with low voltage and frankly I wouldn’t dare.
I even use it with a stabilizer just to be on the safe side.

All things considered it’s gets 4 out of 5 stars for energy consumption.

Durability/ Portability

It is a light television weighing just about 5kg. So it is easy to move about.

I’ve already addressed the fact that it has no wall bracket and the stands are too far apart which makes it clumsy and only suited for wide shelves.

Also it’s fragile frame may make it prone to damage during delivery.

So if the delivery personnel is not careful, it may develop screen problems.

Like you may notice red lines running across the screen after some months of usage.

So it’s not very durable and requires great care.

But most TV’S these days come up with this problem of vertical or horizontal lines.

This includes even the popular brands like LG and Hisense.

UKA TV Problems

How To Fix Vertical or Horizontal Lines On Tv Screen

Below is a video to help you troubleshoot if you are experiencing a common UKA TV problem. This is the presence of vertical lines or horizontal lines on the screen.

So for durability and portability, it gets 3 out of 5 stars.
So the total average rating is 3 stars after factoring in it’s affordability.

Now I know my review for this product does not seem to be favorable but let’s not ignore an important point.

Which is?

That this is a cheap product. The highest it goes for is about 35,000 Naira.
Some vendors even sell it for as low as 33,000 Naira.

Considering this low price, the TV is not so bad.
The display is not outstanding but it’s quite okay.
The sound is relatively low but almost everyone uses external speakers or a home theater anyway.

And even the faults it may develop are common to all TV brands.
So the point is that its performance is just what you’ll expect from a cheap product.

If you want premium performance, you have to dish out premium cash.
That is my main purpose for writing this review.

I wanted to show you a cheap product you can consider which would still serve you.

You don't even need to spend much money on speakers or a home theater when you can get this powerful Bluetooth speaker.

You can connect it to your TV using an aux cord.

You can check out this Polystar 32 inch TV Review.

Should You Buy This Product?

If you’re on a tight budget and you just need a Television to watch your movies and football matches and you’re not looking for fancy visuals then go for it.

It’s ok for business places like hair salons, barbershops, hostel rooms e.t.c.
It would also fit well in your bedroom.
