AG-5050 Amstrong Home Theater Review

Amstrong is a very unknown Chinese brand. I’m sure you must have searched online for it.

Just like you, I wasn’t sure of the product quality for such an untested brand.

After observing it’s performance, these are the AG-5050 home theater's major selling points.

• Nice surround sound features. The 5 surround speakers work well to create that 360° acoustic experience.

• It has tower speakers that render far better sound production than most bookshelf speakers.

• It supports wma audio format so if you are the type that has a small studio at home, you can use this system to test your raw recordings.

• Very low distortion. The distortion is 0.7 % at 9 w. So in other words, your human ears will never notice any fuzzy or grainy sound from this home theater no matter how high you raise the volume.

• The dark color, sleek and tall tower design looks modern and stylish and adds class to a room.

This AG-5050 Amstrong home theater is made of wood. Although this does not disturb. Since wood is a commonly used material for making speakers.

I just prefer speakers made with Iron. They seem more durable.

1. Sound

So this system has a power rating of 5000w. I’ve said before in my other home theater reviews that when it comes to speakers, such ratings are just a marketing ploy.

Why?

Because there is no standard for speaker power ratings. 

one system with a rating of 1000w can sound better than another brand that has a speaker rating of 5000w.

But the 5000w rating of this speaker is not just mere talk. This speaker has the ability to rise to high volumes.

Even at half volume, the sound is considerable.  

The subwoofer is also very solid and delivers very good quality bass.

It also has well calibrated volume steps and impressive treble.

The surround speakers when well placed also give that lovely immersive 5.1 channels audio experience.

The center speaker truly brings out clarity of speech which you will notice when you watch movies with this home theater.

2. Connectivity

The AG-5050 home theater system has some of the connectivity options I like to see on a sound system.

It has an aux port to enable you connect the system to your Blu-ray DVD player or satellite decoder.

You can also connect it directly to your TV or laptop if you wish to do so.

But you can only connect one a time. Like you cannot connect your decoder and DVD player at the same time.

It also doesn’t have HDMI options for game consoles like PS4.

Then it is Bluetooth capable. So you can pair it with any Bluetooth device.

I’ve once paired it using Bluetooth with a laptop to watch a movie. And the sound came out fine.

But it was after several frustrating attempts and it rarely works.  

So using just the Bluetooth to play sound without an aux cord is possible but difficult.

You can also play audio content directly from your flash drive or SD card because it has a USB port and SD card slot.

I like the fact that this sound system does not suffer interference and there is rarely a problem of ground loop when using it.

What I mean is that you don’t hear an annoying hum when using the speakers.

3. Size

Like I pointed out earlier, it has tower speakers. 

These floor standing speakers are about 4 feet tall and have a way of dispersing sound around a room.

This system is suitable for large rooms like sitting rooms and rooms ranging from 15- 25 ft.

4. Price

The price for this home theater falls within the 30,000 - 60,000 naira range. 

The AG-5050 uses much power and has a power consumption of 170 w. So bear this mind.

It also doesn’t work well with low voltage and would stress out any generator below 3 kva especially if you combine it with extra load while using the generator.

For an unknown brand, this is an okay product. As for durability, well that is a matter of luck.

We all know that products are no longer made to be as solid as they were back in the good old days.

This home theater focuses on style more than durability. How long it would last depends on how well you treat it.

Provided that you don’t subject it to undue impact or sudden falls..and make sure you protect it from power surges by using a surge protector. 

Then it should last for at least 5 years.

Jumia offers a 1 year warranty for this Amstrong AG5050 home theater system.
