Product Review For Bruhm  Silver BCF-SD200F Freezer

The first thing I noticed about the freezer was the silent operation. It has an efficient compressor that performed well even under stressful conditions like low voltage for example.

The interior light is still working and it’s been almost a year. As trivial as this seems, I’ve used some freezers whose lights go bad in less than two months.

This is a chest freezer so as expected; I haven’t noticed any freezer burn on food products because it doesn’t automatically defrost like upright freezers.

As a matter of fact, food remains frozen for up to seventy-two hours after loss of power supply.

That is provided you don’t open the freezer more than once or twice.

Apart from the fact that it doesn’t self-defrost, it also has the fast-freeze feature. I’ve noticed that it takes within one to one- and- half-hours to freeze foodstuff including the ones at the top.

And it freezes from the bottom to the top. Any Freezer enthusiast would understand how important this is.

Another impressive aspect of this Bruhm product is its easy clean feature.

The silver walls do not retain stains like blood stains from meat. There is no need to use sponges and soap when a wet foam would suffice.

Does This Freezer Guzzle Power?

This chest freezer has a power consumption rating of about  89w.

So it is very energy efficient and would not cost you too much in terms of electricity.

It works on low voltage and can be powered by a 2.5 kva generator.

Cons

So I’ve got a few issues with this freezer.

·         Needs More Baskets:  First, I wish it had more baskets.  It is kind of like a deep tank, especially at the bottom.  It would be great if there was a basket to separate food at the bottom.

·         Doesn’t Work Well With Low Voltage: when the voltage is low, I’ve noticed that only the upper part of the freezer tends to freeze.

Is This Freezer A Good Fit For You?

It would fit nicely in the kitchen although I keep mine in the dining room.

Basically, it is good for places with limited space like small stores for example.

Because of its fast-freeze feature and the fact that it doesn’t self-defrost, it would be a great asset for those who sell frozen foodstuff like meat or fish.

You are not advised to use upright freezers for such businesses anyway.

So you decide. If you have a family or you sell frozen foodstuff then this would be a great fit for you.

That's all you need to know about the Bruhm chest freezer.

My Freezer is not Freezing Properly

So some of my readers have complained that their freezers are misbehaving. It's either the freezers are not freezing or do not cool or only the top part freezes.

Now I understand how troublesome faults like this can be. It's why I chose this freezer in the first place to avoid problems like this. So take heart.

I want you to understand that problems like this are common to all brands, not just Bruhm.

Also, I want to apologize for the late replies to comments. I've been busy with other posts and only just realized that this post was getting attention.

Anyway, I'll try to keep the solutions short and simple as I have some videos that could assist you.

Okay, here we go. When a freezer fails to freeze these are the likely reasons.

✴️Dirty Condenser Coils

When the coils are dirty, they won't dissipate heat. This in turn will reduce the cooling efficiency of the freezer. So your freezer won't freeze.

This problem is so common that it should be the first thing you check for.
Below is a video to show you how to clean your condenser coil.

✴️Faulty Condenser Fan

Check the fan blades to see if there is any obstruction like debris.

If there isn't, roll the fan with your hand to check for stiffness. If it's stiff then it needs to be replaced.

If it rolls freely then use a multimeter (if you are good at technical stuff) to test for continuity. If there is none, then replace it.

✴️Faulty Temperature Control Thermostat

You know that round control you twist to set the temperature, that's the thermostat.

Twist it to the extreme to see if it makes a click sound. If it does then it's in good condition. If not, then test it with a multimeter for continuity. And change it if it's defective.

The other solutions are too technical and may require the help of a repairman so I'll skip them.

Before I forget, most technicians will quickly tell you that your compressor is bad or your main control board is dead. These faults are possible but very unlikely.

So make sure they check for other more likely faults e.g

✴️The temperature control thermostat.

✴️Faulty Start relay:

This one is more likely to happen than the compressor developing a fault. It is the starter relay that powers the compressor.

So if it is faulty, the compressor may not run at all. Then they'll say the compressor is bad.

The technician should test the start relay with a multimeter or check to see whether it is burnt.

If it's defective then it should be replaced.

Anyway below is a video to show you what I'm talking about. Even if you find it a bit technical, it would give you an idea of what the repairer should check for.

Knowledge is power and would save you from getting cheated.

But I don't want to hire a technician☹️

I know my people. Some of us would gladly exhaust every possible option before relying on the services of a technician. Lol.

Well, it's possible that your freezer is experiencing a frost problem. Let's pray that this is the case.

If this is the case you may notice frost buildup on the walls of your freezer.

In some cases, the frost would be so much that you'll think snow fell inside your freezer.

Please don't go and use a cutlass or shovel to start scraping the frost off the walls. I beg you.

On a more serious note, manual defrosting might just be the magical solution your freezer needs.

Even if you don't notice any frost buildup as described, don't lose hope.

Defrosting could still be the answer.
Now before I show you the steps to take for a good old defrosting exercise, make sure you've eliminated other possible causes.

Like:

✴️Door seals.

When you close your freezer, do you feel any cold air when you pass your hand around the mouth of the doors?

If you do then air is escaping through the seals. This means the seal is bad. And you'll probably have to buy a new freezer.

Hopefully, that's not the case.

✴️Dirty coils

I've talked about this. Make sure you've cleaned the coils.

✴️ Surrounding Weather

Sometimes hot weather is the culprit. Like our unseasonably hot weather here in Nigeria. Hot weather makes freezers warm. This is especially if you keep opening the freezer to add or remove items.

Anyway once you're sure that these are not the problems then it's time to defrost.
To defrost your freezer please follow these steps.

🔼Remove all the food items and place them in another freezer or warm them. Just empty the freezer.

🔼After that, place towels under the freezer to trap water.

🔼Turn off the freezer.

🔼Hasten the defrosting process by placing containers of hot water inside the freezer. Then close the freezer.

You should change the water every hour to retain heat.

🔼Don't use a sword, ax or dagger, double barrel, or any sharp object to scrape off the ice. Be patient.

🔼Once you notice that the ice has begun to slide off you can scrape the ice with a plastic spatula. Plastic o.

🔼 Once the ice is gone, wipe the freezer with towels until it's dry. Then turn it back on.

Set it on fast freeze. It should work properly now. If it doesn't then you have to call someone to repair it.

Only The Top Part of My Freezer Freezes

This problem is usually caused by faulty air circulation. When air is not circulating properly, the Freezing becomes irregular.
So some parts would freeze and others would not.

The following faults may be the reasons for poor airflow.

✴️ Clogged filters.

Check to see if the filters are clogged. If they are then replace them.

✴️Fan problems

Your fan may be frozen or stuck and this will hinder air circulation. You can try and loosen the fan or remove any obstruction that is disturbing the blade movement.

Or you can replace the fan.

If the fan is rolling, the fan motor may be bad. So you will need expert help with that.

✴️The evaporator may be bad.  Call a technician to help you with this.

Hopefully, this helps you to solve any problem you are experiencing with your freezer.
