How Lloyd L358SD Bluetooth Home Theater Has “Disappointed” Nigerians

The Lloyd L358SD home theater is cheap. And we Naija people find cheap stuff irresistible.

Its no surprise that this home theater has sold like hot cakes.

It has a couple of selling points which include:

It has an appealing simple design. All the speakers are dark in color. The center channel speaker is sleek and stylish.

It doesn’t take up much space since it is wireless and this is nice for a theater system with 5 surround speakers.

It has karaoke features so you can remove the vocals if you’re into karaoke music.

It is a 5.1 channel ready system. With 5 surround speakers and a 300w rating, this device has rich quality surround sound that can give you that coveted 360° audio experience.

It is very cheap compared to other 5.1 channel home theater systems.

Sound

The sound is smooth and loud and remains clear even at high volumes. At first I wasn’t moved when I saw that the power rating was 300w.

Because I know that most times when it comes to home theater systems, the power rating is just a marketing ploy since it is not standard.

What I mean is that a home theater that boasts of a power rating of 500 w can sound lower than another theater system with a rating of 400w.

But this Lloyd home theater has impressive bass and sound depth that complements it’s 300 w power rating. So you can say that the subwoofer is of good quality.

Connectivity

My main dissatisfaction with this Lloyd model is that the connectivity is very limited.

Like you can’t just connect it to your TV or decoder unless your TV supports Bluetooth.

Fortunately it has a DVD player that supports most video and audio formats.

But it’s not a Blu-ray player. And I prefer using a Blu-ray player than an ordinary DVD player. And so it would be much better if the system came with an aux port for connecting external devices.

There is no HDMI port for connecting a game console so you can’t use this system with your PS4 for example.

To me this is a great flaw. Apparently, other users feel the same way as I’ve noticed.

Now some people complain of a loud humming noise and I noticed that when I first used it.

It took me a while to get rid of it but I realized that the humming sound disappeared when I plugged both the receiver and the DVD player to the same extension box or power source.

Another thing that can cause this hum is when you place the surround speakers too close together like in the photo below.

They are not meant to be placed closely but strategically around your room.

Your speaker arrangement should be similar to the setup in the picture below.

And if this doesn’t help you can try and follow the tips in this video to eliminate the loud hum.

This system works well with your smart phone. You can switch it on with your phone and play music straight from your phone like any Bluetooth enabled speaker.

But the Lloyd 358SD home theater system lacks that Dolby Atmos feature that makes you feel like you’ve been enveloped in a sound tower.

Don’t get me wrong, the surround speakers are great and once you set them well, they bring that sense of space and depth but that cinema sound is missing.

So it is a good speaker to be fair. When you consider it’s cheap price.
