Hisense 145L Freezer Review

We both know how confusing the process of getting a new freezer can be. You are faced with several choices and you have to figure out whether they fit with the specifications you have in your mind.

So, this review is meant to show you whether this 145L freezer from Hisense is what you want.

The first thing that could interest you about this freezer is its design. You're looking at a standalone chest freezer.

By standalone, we mean that it does not have a refrigerator compartment. Now you may wonder, do I want a standalone chest freezer? What other types are there?

Well, what are your needs for getting a new freezer? Do you already have another freezer or fridge and just need extra space to store food items like meat, groceries, pizza...?

If you have a freezer or fridge already, then getting a standalone chest freezer is a good idea because it offers you more space for your frozen food.

And the full capacity for this unit is 145L.

But there are other types of freezers too. You could get an upright freezer or you could get a freezer fridge. Freezer fridge models sometimes have the refrigerator compartment at the top with the freezer portion below. Some models are designed the other way round.

If that's what you have in mind then consider this Hisense 100L fridge with a freezer compartment or this Hisense 302L fridge freezer.

But if you truly want a deep freezer then now you may be wondering, why should I choose this chest freezer over an upright version?

Well, we have already talked about how this model offers you more space. Extra space is an advantage of chest freezers. Another benefit you will notice if you choose this unit is that it will keep your food frozen when there is a blackout.

Erratic power supply is still a problem in Nigeria and this Freezer is able to retain your food for up to three (3) days during a blackout. A lot of upright deep freezers would not be able to perform this well because frankly, they are not built to do so.

This freezer also uses less energy than an upright model. The rating is about 89w which is low for a freezer. So, using this freezer would keep more money in your pocket because you will spend less on electricity bills.

You may not like the fact that you have to bend down to pick food items out of the freezer. You would also need to remove food from it whenever you are trying to reach items at the bottom of the unit. This is a common disadvantage of chest freezers and if this is a no-go area for you then maybe an upright model is more suitable for you.

Now, since buying this unit is a sizable investment, it is about 140,000 Naira at the moment on Jumia; it's only natural for you to wonder whether this is the best chest freezer you could go for. It's not like Hisense is the only brand that manufactures 145L chest freezers.

The truth is that there is no special ingredient that brands add to their freezers. A chest freezer is designed to store your food at low temperatures to prevent rotting. So, any good quality brand will make sure the body of the freezer is strong enough to withstand rust.

The brand will also make sure that the inside is easy to clean, the lids are firm and without gaps to prevent cold air from escaping, the freezer is not too noisy, and the compressor is of good quality or tropicalized for West African weather.

Any other feature added is just extra and is based on your preference.

If we go by this logic then this model from Hisense is a good quality freezer.

You will notice that you can place it in your dining room or even bedroom because the operation is near silent. This is not one of those freezers that has a compressor that drums like the lead drummer for a rock band.

You will also love the fact that it is easy to clean and has a water disposal device. Chest freezers are prone to frost buildup which is why this water disposal feature is important. We both know that defrosting can be a real pain because you have to switch off the freezer then wait for the ice to melt before you scoop it out.

Although you may still need to defrost this unit once in a while, the water disposal feature reduces the occurrence of frost buildup. So, we could say that this Hisense freezer saves you from wasting your time doing something you would rather not do.

Another thing you will like about this freezer is the fact that it shuts off power once the voltage is too low. Other freezers may get damaged by erratic voltage levels but this model has in built mechanisms to protect it from low voltage.

But note that, it is in your interest to use this unit with a stabilizer.

But your mind may still be considering other brands. Why should you go for this freezer when you can get a model from Bruhm or Skyrun or Scanfrost?

We have already seen how this freezer is of good quality. This is not a freezer that goes bad after one year, in fact this freezer can serve you for an average of 5 years. It could serve longer but it will normally serve you for 5 years without any issue.

Bruhm is also a great brand, the freezer units can be picky with voltage sometimes and may refuse to cool when the voltage is too low but the freezers from Bruhm generally have all the great features we have looked at that constitute a good quality freezer.

Another advantage a Bruhm freezer has is that at the moment, they are relatively cheaper than Hisense products.

For example, the 150L freezer from Bruhm is just 125,000 naira on Jumia. That's an obvious price difference so if you want a cheaper appliance that works just as well, you could check it out. Learn more about Bruhm freezers here.

So, what of Skyrun? Skyrun is great too, the models have good compressors, they retain cold, freeze fast and generally perform well. The 155L freezer from Skyrun is 118,000 Naira. That is way lower than the 140,000 Naira that this Hisense freezer is asking for.

As for Scanfrost freezers, from our readers experiences, the units are better suited for areas with uninterrupted power supply. So, if you live in Abuja or have access to uninterrupted power then you may consider Scanfrost freezers.

The main difference between this Hisense model and freezers from other brands is the fact that it comes with rollers.

So, it is easy to move about and clean under. It is also in high demand by Nigerians. And if a product is in high demand then there must be a reason since people are not in the habit of throwing their money away.

Is this freezer suitable for you? Now you have to ask yourself whether the space (145L) meets your storage requirements.

If it is too small and you want something larger, consider this Hisense 250L deep freezer.

You already know that it won't be clunky and take up space because it is easy to roll or move around. The compressor is of good quality and it has all you would expect from a chest freezer.

This includes the indicator light, baskets for organization, lock and key so that toddlers don't play boss baby games with your food items and silent operation.

Remember that this model is just one of the several confusing choices we have when it comes to freezers. So, does it meet up with the specifications you have in mind?
